A New Year greeting from Peter Ferguson

Dear friends,

I want to extend my best wishes for a happy 2012.

For me 2011 was an exciting and happy year. My wife and I and our two sons undertook an eco-tour of Costa Rica in February. My three year effort to organize the postdoctoral union at UWO came to a successful conclusion with the signing of the first collective agreement in October. Another highlight of 2011 was my role as federal NDP candidate for London West. It was lot of hard work but also much fun, especially with the support given by so many volunteers. Many of you also showed your support by making a donation to the campaign, by taking a sign, helping canvass, or calling in or emailing words of support and encouragement. I thank you. Although we did not win, our 16,109 votes (25.9% of the total) was our best finish yet. I suspect that after 4 years of majority Conservative rule, Canadians will be ready for the kind of positive change New Democrats can bring. You can help London West NDP be part of that change.

Unfortunately, we will have to move forward without Jack Layton, who led us to our best finish ever nationally and to status as Official Opposition. Now with your help we need to pick a new leader who will help bring us to the next level. If you are a friend and supporter of the NDP, but not yet a member, please consider joining. Not only does your membership allow you to vote for our next federal leader (if you join before Feb 18th) at March ‘s Leadership Convention in Toronto, it also allows you to vote for your local candidate at the nomination meeting and participate in formulating NDP policy.

I hope you will consider joining the NDP (or if a lapsed member, renewing your membership).

Many thanks and best wishes,

Peter Ferguson.
