EVENT: London West New Democrats are inviting Londoners to sign a giant best wishes card for federal NDP leader Jack Layton, who announced February 5 he was about to begin treatment for prostrate cancer. While Layton continues to fulfill his duties as MP for Toronto Danforth and party leader, local New Democrats wish him continuing strength and a speedy recovery. The 60-foot-long scroll they have created is currently circulating among party workers in the London area.
WHO: London New Democrats and well-wishers of all political stripes are welcome to drop in and sign the card for Jack Layton.
WHEN: Sunday February 21, 2–4 pm, during the annual general meeting of London West NDP
WHERE: Tolpuddle Labour Co-op Common Room, 380 Adelaide St. North at King.
BACKGROUND: According to the Canadian Cancer Society, one in seven Canadian men will develop prostrate cancer. In 2009, 25,000 of them were diagnosed with this very treatable disease. The five-year survival rate is 95% and climbing.
