On Pension Reform...
"Give Jack Layton credit. He was all over the unfolding pension crisis long before the Liberals, the media and the premiers -- never mind the blandly unconcerned Harper government."
“Mr. Layton’s idea is to provide a self-sustaining plan that would cover pensioners or retirees should their company go bankrupt. A recent flock of angry Nortel workers atop Parliament Hill served as an all-too-eerie reminder of what can happen in the private sector.”
On the Environment & Bill C-311...
“The Liberals voted many times in favor of this Bill, but now, they rather have their own Bill on the subject to make sure the NDP doesn’t get the credit.”
"The Liberals have voted in favour of the Climate Change Accountability Act (NDP Bill C-311) three times previously. There's no reason for more delay. It is time to take action, not play politics with the planet.”
On Employment Insurance Reform...
“The Conservative government has bowed to its NDP allies and promised to amend proposed employment-insurance legislation to fix a gap that could have left thousands of long-time workers falling through the cracks.”
“The New Democratic Party has been a tireless ally in the fight for needed EI reform … After months of union advocacy and Parliamentary pressure, the government has finally offered a meaningful, though limited, improvement.”
